Wyegate - a Dude's view
Left Merthyr about 10 ish - picked up Geraint (hero of the day) headed towards Monmouth
Geraint has this new TV thing he holds in his hand and had a link to the route - we saw some dirtbikes and followed them down a tiny lane ..
pulled over and run up the lane to get a good vantage point -
about 5 bikes passed us ... then nothing
we walked back down and noticed the marker had gone - basically we caught the sweeper .. so back in the van and we decide to head towards Mitchel Troy.. again we see some bikes and follow them to this 2 section part of the route
couple of old school bikes turn up...
then the coolest of all the riders turns up
So we are having a nice time - talking to the marshals, discussing beard trimmers and Barbours, when all of a sudden some rabble from the valleys turn up... and start falling all over the place
A few guys try to show how it's done - walk the route, hands on hips - preparation !!
then they nearly get run over by one of the valleys riders !!
we followed the boys for a bit ...
then we decided to head to Pant Glas ... again thanks to Geraint and his hand held TV
Typical of me not knowing my left from right or up from down - we ended up at the top of the lane and i decided to try and turn around in a field
I got stuck - spinning left right and centre - again hero Geraint takes the wheel and uses the old second gear routine to get us out
we ran down the lane - made it in time to see the boys hit the big step .. and met a few friendly faces ...
My camera was absolute banana shit - and kept taking pictures 2 seconds too late - so i got loads of shots of lanes and trees - with the odd back wheel in the frame .... heres one of the best ones
so then we head home only for me to realise I left my phone at the top of Pant Glas
- so I dragged Geraint all the way back to get it
was a great day out - Charlie loved it - good to see a few familiar faces - and finally shake hands with Denzil and Shocker
well done lads for getting round - it did look tough ... roll on the summer !!!

Re: Wyegate - a Dude's view
Fair play that was a grand day out, did'nt cost me a penny, free coffee and sandwich, happy days
And hats hat off to all who took part, the section at Mitchell Troy was a ball breaker which got steadily worse as the more people tackled it and churned it up, so by the time our crew got there, it was horrendous and they had to do it all on trials tyres, it was that bad Jeff told me in between gasps of air, " I'd rather do the Welsh two day"
And after doing all that they had to tackle pant glas
I salute you gentlemen well done

Ha Ha that bit was funny - we watched them mudslides deteriorate by the rider
- at first it was "this looks easy - maybe we enter next year on the 250 & 125 "
then as it got a bit snottier ..." hmm its getting tricky - but our boys are good - they'll breeze up them"
... the rest as they say is history
.. there were a couple of ladies (i wont say girls ) who flew round them sections
