Re: 525 piston rings
Mine started to puff a bit jt, there was a few hours on it so thought it was time for a piston/rings & check.
Dropped it into Ray Cowles in Pontypool with a piston kit & valve stem seals job done
Was told the piston was fine, but while its apart I would change the piston & seals too.

I heard that's quite common on them, how do you know the barrel size dai?dai 530 wrote:Make sure you check the inlet valves mine were fooked on my 450 just about to go through the valve seat
and you will need to check what size barrel you have on there a no 1 or 2

A no 2 is bigger by 0 .002 mm usually a bike will come with a no 1 and as the cylinder wears you can pit a no 2 piston in it but some bikes have a no 2 on them from the factory it is stamped on the barrel 1 or 2 or it could be a or b

Re: 525 piston rings
I expect my old man will have all that gear, i'll have to go on the scroungephil990 wrote:On two strokes if I remember right it always seemed to wear away just above exhaust port. Check for wear and tear but on a four stroke you would be unlucky if there was any damage...
If compression is good I would say it will be valve guide seals. If piston is relatively newish just measure piston and rings for any wear...
You will need valve spring compressor, valve grinding past and new valve stem seals. When grinding in valves use just the lightest of touches..
I'll have a look when its apart to see what's needed

Re: 525 piston rings
Thing is if you fit a all new top end all that extra compression may blow the old crank through the sump

When i done mine i put new cam bearings in new cam chain and tensioner new waterpump oil seals new valve stem oil seals and 2inlet valves it cost a little more but it saves striping it down again it was on 10,000 miles and the only problem was the valves
