The Peak District
Now then . a few of us from all over , met up and had a cracking (as usual) ride in The Peaks . Ride Report as follows .
There were 19 eager beavers on this one . A reasonable turnout . Some old and some new faces .
We rode a lot of lanes and even had a good chat and laugh with a few of the local constabulary (one of which wants to buy a trail bike) before I got the camera out .
Show time ......
Loon on an xr650
Traffic Jam at Monsal Head .
Sorry Rich , had to post this one . Nice new bike too .
10/10 for effort and also for taking on board the 2nd man rule . Good man .
Pictures normally don`t show a real representation of the gradient of most trails . This one does , I think . Add that with the factor of a few bikes before with mud and water . The only word that springs to mind .....momentum .
Some more normal trails ...
EXCLee . Sweeper . You deserve a lot more credit as a lot of rides would go tits up without you and your patience . Thanks .
Cookie `avin it .
Swifty on his uber bling new bike . There aint no parts to turn orange anymore . Another one of "the good guys" .
Local Sheffield lad , Timbo .
and his mate , who now know more trails .
First time trail rider Phil from The West Midlands . Check out the number plate . That should be illegal due to blocking the vision of any oncoming traffic . Fair play to him as he adhered to the 2nd man rule also .
A light rest before a small snotty hill climb .
Three Shires Head .
Wildboarclough . I laid my bike down so everyone had to ride the whole length of the river . He he .
Swifty took to it like a duck to water .....
Fartknocker aka Six Million Dollar Top Man .
Loon on an XR650 . Adam ;D
Three Cans .
Happy face .
There are LOADS of places to play in The Peaks still but why should the anti`s take them away as we , as trail riders only have a fraction left .There was not enough time to stop and photograph all of the trails . The Peaks is a great place to explore . That is why I got up at 5 a.m. and returned home at 10:45 p.m. still smiling . It is what we do .
This report is dedicated to the broken folks that I know, would love to be on two wheels . You are a long time dead . Heal soon friends .

Re: The Peak District
The factory fit those E.U. regs choke levers on the handlebars . Great idea but they stay slightly open and burn a hell of a lot of fuel . I also dropped the standard needle right down . Sorted . Proper fuel economy , less stinking smoke on tricky hill climbs and no more spooge .
I bought a spanking new exc300 , changed that for a Berg TE300 of which was a smoother ride but The Gasser is really smooth . Quite a few of my mates have bought them and are impressed on how they grip where others fail . They are also pretty quiet which helps me not to upset folks . No what I mean .
Best of all , I can now touch the ground with both feet as I am Vertically Challenged . Ha ha .

Re: The Peak District
Know what u mean with the fuel economy! I got my needle up one, bottom end runs a bit smoother, but does drink a bit more fuel, might put it back one......me vertically challenged too!! got drop links on mine, this is my second, really like the new version look, but cash says I keep with mine never mind...still does the job...

These may help . I think the carbs are the same .
Gas Gas UK run their bikes on the following setup .
175 Main
40 Pilot
7 Slide
N1EF Neadle , clip on top
1.5 turns out air screw .
To lean it out more ,you could try a 38 pilot and 170 main . Be VERY CAREFUL on road burns . This is a place where "plug chops" are needed . They are a case of finding what jetting suits your bike . Absolutely fukkin nail the bastard down the road for one minute , after warming the engine first . Pull over quickly and remove the spark plug . If it is a light chocolate brown colour , you have hit the jackpot . Any lighter means it`s too lean and darker , too rich .
Float height can also be a problem . The easiest way to tell is by leaning the bike over and seeing when the fuel starts to leak through the overflow tube . If it`s a "bike laying down" type of angle , no probs . If it`s a bike on the side stand leak , you then need to check your float height for excess fuel use . The float should have an 8 mm reservoir of fuel to be efficient . Also , sorry but I need to add this one , make sure the air filter is clean . Try breathing through ten layers of cotton . 2 strokes need proper air . If they dont get it , that to will also seriously impair the performance . Cheers .
