Think it's a bit of a 'horses for courses' job really
There are 125's and 525's, two and four strokes, whippets and porkers all out on the same ride's doing the same stuff on here without any problems - that are the fault of the bike!  Very Happy

Blagging as many goes on as many different bike's as possible before choosing probably best way to know before spending your money

Occasionally shops and manufactures do try out days or something like that Dave Thorpe school in South Wales or the Yamaha one run by Geraint Jones might help?
Even if you don't want those makes, you might get to find out what suits you best and even if trail riding suits you Very Happy

Welcome to the forum. You will need 2 budgets mate - one to buy it and one to repair it. You can do what some guys do and just ride it and get others to maintain it for you on the rides - ask Dude lol, saying that he does have a second hand front sprocket going cheap from yesterdays ride..... 4 teeth left and plenty of life in it.

Thanks for the warm welcome and good advice. Not stuck on the ktm choice , just like the look , getting my hands dirty isn't a problem in fact I like to tinker and have always done all the work on my bikes . That being said I don't want anything too delicate that's breaking down all the time . Is there a bomb proof alternative or is it the nature of the sport that mean things are going to break quite often.

They are all much the same considering the shit they go through. Just most ride ktm's so you get to hear about their repairs the most.

Don't go there, found his sprocket had 4 teeth left half way through yesterdays ride(lucky we were fueling at et james at the time), he's a bad owner!
