Its probably the same on most other yams of that age.

It is common fot rads to block up
is the bike getting too hot or is the temp just going in to the red

Take the cap off and see if you can see the water flowing out of the top hose into the rad.
If you can its a good chance it clear enough.
If it was me i,d change the sender.
If you want to pop up one evening you can try the one out of my rd.

the temp gauge goes up gradually as you ride along/leave it idling
water is hot in the bottom hose 
begining to think the rads fecked

You could try by passing the rad and see what happens
or check the water pump

ten minutes of wynns radiator flushing/cleaning, then a 5 mins flushing with water and all sorted, no more over heating thank feck
