What part of the Rhondda?

I use to live in Ystrad, so know the trails up there well. Not a huge amount of legal routes but plenty you can get lost in Rolling Eyes

The "legal" green lanes that I know of are only short runs, I've checked the OS maps around the valleys and there is not a great deal of legal trails.

Short section runs directly through Pen Rhys golf club, head through the main gates and the legal byway runs through the middle of the course. Stone/dust road, at the end of the golf course you'll find a farmers gate, another short section of grass ruts to ride before another farmers gate and you'll be heading down a rocky path through a farm. You'll be back on the tarmac in porth.

The rocky section downhill may challenge a newbie and is a nice hull
Climb to try getting back up.

From the bottom of the farm in porth, we use to head over to ynyshir/llanwunno there's a legal trail up. Head towards the Baden pub and onto the new bypass, turn onto the industrial estate on new bypass near ynyshir primary. Head up the hill behind the primary school and at the very top of the hill is a gate and the start of the byway. Keep following the path, it's a nice hill climb, you'll end up in the forest in llanwunno near the Bull Mx/Dave Thorpe Honda off-road track.

There are plenty of tracks up this area to keep busy but not all legal.
