wr 450 starter motor !!

how hard is it to change a starter motor? and where`s the cheapest place to get one?

Easy enough to change but a few years ago they were a £200 yam part only so is rry and get it repaird.
Theres a bloke in Tredegar that fixes starters.
If its a 03 bike id try and get a starter clutch from a 04 model or newer as they were uprated at that time you,l need the small case to if you do.
Anther thing make sure you got a good quality battery not a cheap thing and always kickstart the engine when cold.

Oh dear I hope it's not like my old wr450 that had 4 starter motors in 3 years cheapest place to get them is America .and the easy way to get them off is from the right hand side of the bike you will have to take the exhaust off undo the 2 oil pipes lift out of the way the starter will come out this way have fun

Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll have to get used to changing them! First one that's gone for me and I've had the bike 18months and never used the kick start.

I kicked mine for a year or so but got pissed int the end of buying new boots. It would kick back and shove the kick start straight through my boot.
The worset thing you can do is starting them while in gear with a shit cheapo battery.

Can you take it apart like a ktm one? When mine starts playing up I crack it open clean it all up and lube the bushes, same one for the last 9 years Although the brushes looked a bit worn the last time I had it apart

Cheers Joss, found a company to supply the plate with brushes attached for £22 they do all the bits to rebuild the whole starter too
