Garmin Montana 600
For anyone interested , a few of us have been using this GPS for a while :

Garmin Montana 600 about £269 ( Burrows GPS is where me and Brownie got ours from)
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Was a lifesaver at the weekend as we needed to put a route from a paper map up onto a GPS quick , didnt take long , plus we then bluetoothed it to the sweepers GPS ( same model) so he had it too .
You're gonna need a mount kit ( powered from battery ) about £38
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
and a ram mount to fix to your bars , about £31
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
All you need then is the 1:50,000 map , which a few of us have and can stick onto a memory SD card for nought .
The whole package will cost about £340 - but mines had some whacks , sunk in water ,and never missed a beat . You probably could smash it , but i leave my mount a bit loose so it just moves with an impact .
I reckon Wolfy would still smash it in a day or two mind .
A lot of dosh granted , but if you want to follow a route , and see it clearly , and be confident it won't pack up on you half way round , I give this 5 stars .

Thanks rob i think it's money well spent to be fair and plonking one of those on me bars might give me a good reason to try and stay on the bike not on the deck.

Re: Garmin Montana 600
I've had one for a while now after I lost my satmap in the gloop on the north Devon run.
The benefits of this device for me is the fact you can see the screen in bright sunshine (as well as what rob has noted)
If you are after a gps it's is worth paying a little bit more for one of these.
Just make sure you don't buy the bundle with the maps.
I can get you all that for free. I will put it on your micro sd card(£4) amd all you have to do is put it in and you are away.

Re: Garmin Montana 600
Just had a look at my Memory Map thingy and look what happened - despite trying you didn't kill it after all!

When the brightness was turned down, it goes so dim you need to be in a pitch dark place to see the very faint screen left.
Just wound the brightness back up and all good
But will still buy the Garmin job when it does die, as seem better in every way!

Re: Garmin Montana 600
Got the Garmin Montana 600 and the Ram mounted cradle to give continuous power.
Has anyone found a way to protect the contacts from shit, rain and the bottom of rivers etc. when the Garmin isn't in the cradle?
Or do you have to take it all off when you want to use the bike without it, which would be a pain in the arse due to it being hard wired in!

Don't knock it until you've tried it!
But then again that ain't ever going to happen due to you having to put your hand in your pocket first is it?
