I always put the washer on a quick prewash empty to clean out the detergents before i wash may waterproof kit .
save up all the bits of leftover hand soap used around the house, cut them up with a kitchen knife into tiny pieces,
i'v used a new bar in the past in her cheese grater . f**k the expense, live life on the edge.
in the washer on a low temp quick wash and your done.

no rob i'm not taking the piss.
i sell children's waterproofs, mainly Scandinavian the likes of RUKKA you may no as they make motorbike gear.
i.m no expert, but it's all on the label how to look after it.
the automatic washing machines and some of the detergents can ruin your jacket in a short time if not done right.
