A combination of luck, speed on the stop button and it simply stalling - i think!

Depends how you define luck I think . Standing up to your nuts in a river with a flooded bike , thinking yourself lucky it didn't lock
I've found you get 2-3 seconds of 'death gurgle' noise before she conks out . Hit the kill switch if you've time but most of the time they've conked out themselves and it's plug out and dry things out . If it's a short deep crossing , just gun it , if it's a long shallow crossing , feet down and paddle , and if there's a jibbers bridge , don't at any point ever consider using it , cos that means your'e a wimpy poofbag .

If there's a choice between possibly seeing your bike lying at the bottom of a river then going through the faff of stripping the thing down, wringing out the air filter etc.etc. while a bunch of Herbets watch generally taking the piss (and photographs!) then riding it home full of water and having to change the oil loads of times later or being called a wimpy poofbag..............?
