Air mixture or over fueling - even well set up bikes will pop if you ride them hard enough, all my past mx 4 bangers 'errr banged coming off the throttle, the 450 sx used to spit flames.

well the owner thinks its done to a sticky exhaust valve but olso said the bike rides great.

it does have after market cans so jon thinks thats why. apparantly his drz (sorry caries) drz [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.] does it.

Yeah some zorst cans can change the back pressure which also causes a pop, my fmf on the 250f did it but it ran smooth as with the standard cans. Check the plug colour steve to make sure its not the mixture. What bike is it?
