I had one on a Beta trials bike once, and when I told the dealer that I didn't notice any difference between modes he said '' you wouldn't,  but a good rider would''

It might well have been true, i just didn't really need that twat to tell me!! Very Happy

The 2009 is a carb model is it not? which would definitely suggest that it limits the rev speed curve via cdi?

Your 14 would be the same as my 12 and could be either cdi or ecu based, but given the lack of misfires could suggest its ignition curve is managed by the ecu?
Yes the 2009 is a carb model and I personally think it works better than the injection the power's more contrable
