Transalp 650 Sticky brakes
Evening all,
I've spent the weekend prepping for sale a Honda Transalp.
The bike had covered less than 500 miles in the last four years, so I gave it a full service and stripped the front & rear brake calipers off the bike, cleaned them down, greased all the pins and fitted new pads.
However the front brakes are still binding on slightly, with the front wheel in the air, its fairly difficult to spin the wheel.
The bike has only covered 22,000 miles from new, the discs look good.
Any tips for determining the issue?
From reading online, the transalp seem to be known for the pistons to stick. I've never rebuilt a caliper, whats involved?

it may just be a slight gove on the disc and the pads are rubbing on it run it on the road to see if it clears if you got to strip it be careful of the seals inside be gentle

Just take the caliper off keep pumping the brake till the piston pops out clean it up and stick it back in then bleed the brake again.
Mite before you buying a caliper rebuild kit before hand.

Worth trying out on the road first but keep an eye on things don't want it overheating and warping...
Failing that take the pistons out as stevo mentioned have a seal kit ready maybe possible to polish the pistons lightly as may have built up corrosion with lack of use - make sure no burrs on the slider pins?

Picked up new seals for the front calipers today, used a spare cylinder and brake hose on the bench to pop out the pistons. The oil seals were clean and tidy but the first wiper seal was rough on all Pistons.
Cleaned them and rebuilt, but sadly where some heavy handed spanner monkey has wound the Pistons back previously the inner face was damaged. Tried to file it back smooth but looks like I'll have to pick up a new caliper.

You sure it hasn't worn like that on the bike?

The area the piston retracts into, on the front face there are 2 marks a few mm apart. Looks like it's been hit with a screwdriver, which has caused damage to the seal groove. The seal will not sit flush in the groove, you can feel a lip if you run a driver over it.
When operating the brake, the piston works but can be heard drawing air and blows bubbles if I squirt WD40 onto it. It's only leaking on the area where the two marks are
I tried to file it and refit the seal but no luck. Any other suggestions ?

Some seal kits come with new pistons.
I'm sure its the same caliper that's used on wr/yz to if your looking for a replacement.
