Newbie from Cardiff Empty Newbie from Cardiff

Post by wolfy47 Mon Apr 04, 2016 9:27 am

Hi everyone, just a quick hello to introduce myself. I have been riding motorbikes since i was about 14 years old (now 47) started off with a 1979 air cooled rm 125, followed by various other mx bikes, untill I got my licence and switched to road bikes. Current bike is a 2008 honda fireblade but I miss getting dirty so currently on the hunt for an enduro type bike for a bit of off road fun. got my heart set on a ktm mainly because they look the part, that is the extent of my knowledge lol. would like to try a four stroke as all my previous off road bikes have been 2 stroke but would appreciate your expert advice on the subject. Budget is tiny because I was stupid enough to marry a very attractive woman that hates bikes with a passion, and I do still want to keep the blade. Looking forward to hearing from you all cheers......Karl

Hi Karl and welcome.
Yea Ktm goes down well here but everyone has there own preferences , mine is a ktm 350excf a good mid range bike.
Having had a 1000 blade i know which i prefer the ktm every time (no idiots in the way)
4 stroke 2 stroke debate goes on, i think coming from a 4 stroke road bike you may find a 4 stroke off road easier i did.
Lot of peeps on here ride 2 strokes and they can tell you more.
Anyway welcome.

Cheers for that mate, i would like a 4 stroke but do still love the sound of a 2 stroke, but probably would find the 4 to be an easier transition though. Fitness will be my next issue I do prefer the settee to the gym, that may have to change lol.

Welcome to the forums.

I love my 450 4t, perfer it to ride over the 250 and 300 2t's. However the 2t's put a massive smile on my face every time I ride one.

I have been looking at 400+ on the 4 stroke would I do better with a smaller bike like the 350?

As long as you got strong arms to hang on, don't get fixated by large cc even the 250's nowadays are mega fast and grunty.

Welcome Karl , the words tiny budget and KTM don't often appear in the same sentence . It all depends if you want to spend the money 'when' you buy it ( newish one ) , or 'after' ( old one ) . Buy a cheapy to start with , then if you get the bug , sell the blade and buy a 350 excf , unless you a fat bastard in which case 450 .
