Re: Gas Gas 300
Wouldn't go near it!
Old GasGas stuff not known for build quality to start with (have had one and know!!) also has some already known faults, plus having to get it road legal (assuming it's not nicked) and the GasGas company being touch and go making parts possibly tricky to get hold of screams 'walk away before you get your fingers burnt' to me!
But then again I've never ever bought a Lottery ticket, and ride a Honda so obviously a bit risk adverse myself

Re: Gas Gas 300
I dont intend on making it road legal - just to use on the mountain behind me now and then - or chuck in the van and go to a pay and play day out ... (tosser on crosser stuff)
i would never knowingly buy a nicked bike - and i'll ask for frame and engine number to call his bluff before i commit ...
were all gas gas 300's road registered or did they make a MX ?
im thinking of offering £300

Re: Gas Gas 300
Get the frame numbers, phone fowlers in Bristol, they will tell you if its all clear. If it comes back all good I would consider buying it at £500 or if you can get it less even better.
The early gas gas bikes are known to have bomb proof engines but the rest of the bike will fall apart. Bearings, fork seals etc.
If all is clean and tidy, I'd buy it. Spares can be a pain, I recently sold a 2007 gasgas, fella had to order parts direct from Spain in the end.
If all you plan is for mx/mountain use, it would be worth your while registering it, if it isn't already as they fetch over a grand!

Re: Gas Gas 300
Even if I didn't want it registered I'd still wonder why it wasn't, as most of them seemed to be - sure don't remember many on MX tracks back then?
Can only say what the 250 I had was like, but maybe the 300 was better?
Front caliper body wore out, back brake apparently had a trials reservoir and an enduro caliper (GasGas design not a bodge) so it never worked properly, the spherical bearings in the shock wore out and had to get some machined to fit as no longer avaliable, then the engine oil and cooling water joined each other in a lovely white mess
The day I turned the petrol on and the lever broke in half because I'd done in on a cold frosty day (according to GasGas ) I gave up and flogged it!
I met the person who later bought it off ET James, and they had a right go because I'd sold 'a death trap' to 'em
Maybe a better plan would be to clear out all your bikes, and get a nice KIM 300 that would do everything you want!
Wouldn't get called a fairy for riding g a 250f, easier to fix/maintain than a four stroke and loads of manageable power - sorted!
