Done a full oil change inc filters and have topped her up with 1.2ltr of new oil. (2006 400exc)

I cannt see it in the sight glass, Ive waited for it to settle, even put a little extra in but its still not in the sight glass. I can see it running through the sight glass when the engine is running, but it doesnt settle and stay in the sight glass, when turned off.

The question is - should I keep topping it up until it can be seen in the sight glass ( I dont want to over fill it) Or should I just leave it where it is as I KNOW EXACTLY how much Ive put in..........as per the manual.

And yes the drain bolt and filter bolts are done up

Any ideas?

Lee - have exactly same issue with mine!

Changed oil, put exactly 1.2L back in & even when warm nothing showing in the glass.

Put another 200ml in & still nothing!

Only after putting yet another 200ml in was it just showing at the bottom of the glass!

It's bugging the hell out of me!

Top it to half way on the sight glass, run it for a few minutes let it cool top it back up if needed to the middle again.
Goes without saying the bike needs to be on level ground & upright.

Well mines had 1.6lt & still only just showing.

Bit disconcerting esp. as the manual states 1.2lt!

I got same problem, I was about to do an oil change and was looking in the glass and couldn't see no oil
- then the sun came out and i thought fuck it go for a quick ride - but before i did i topped it up so as i could see some oil half way - later on about an hour or so later when the bike was warm the oil level was very high...

in anycase i will be doing an oil change this week - so i'm following this thread

mines a 450 exc - manual says 1.2 ltrs
i got rock oil semi synthetic 10w/30 (got a cheap job lot )

Fuck knows how much mine takes, i sit it level on the jack up stand then just fill it until its halfway up the sight glass, let it run for a bit then check it again 10w/40 semi i put in too! I was putting 10w/50 synthetic in but then decided i'm not a millionaire just yet so i'll put the semi in for now Laughing
