Finding TDC with a Rekluse Clutch

Anybody had experience with valve clearances and finding TDC with the Rekluse clutch? Cannt turn the wheel with the bike in gear as its "always in neutral" until the revs rise

I had this message from the KTM forum - but I am missing something here?

With the bike on the sidestand, remove the locking screw, take off the thick washer and put the screw back in half way.

Then lean the bike against a wall or put it on a jackup stand with a bit of timber under the left side frame rail to lean it over. Remove the ignition cover without losing any oil.

Then turn the crank anticlockwise and watch the inlet valve go down, then up, then line the bottom of block on the flywheel up with the top of the pulse coil. Then screw the locking bolt fully in.

Then put the ignition cover back on and sit the bike back level.


Should I after the valves are checked be putting the locking nut back to how it was in the beginning?  Forgive me as I havent done or seen it done before.

I've not done it with a rekluse but my engine is the same as yours, the bolt in question is the allen headed one with the thick washer on the bottom right front of the engine, remove it and take the washer off then start screwing it back in but only halfway. Then take off the ignition cover on the left side of the crank and turn the engine until both sets of valves open and then close and that should be your tdc, you should then be able to screw the allen bolt in and lock it at tdc.
Now you can adjust the valves to spec, or turn the screw until you feel resistance then back them off a sixth of a turn, that's what Kevinyorks does off ktm forum. After you've done them remove the allen bolt again, replace the washer and screw it back in.

Thanks Joe. Yes that makes sense now. I wasn't sure where this screw was and did I need to return it back to normal afterwards. Going. To give it a go this afternoon. Did you have to replace the gasket on the ignition cover with a new one?

No probs mate! With the gasket it depends how it comes off, sometimes they come off in one piece and other times in several! I've just had mine off and it was in one piece so I put it back on and it's not leaking but I'd bought one anyway so I've got a spare if you're stuck!
I think I've got a head gasket that'll fit yours too, it came in a gasket kit along with mine and one for a 450! No wonder it was so expensive!
