Tyre diameter
So I put an AC10 front tyre on, on Saturday. Went riding Sunday and could barley ride, washed out so many times I had to go home at lunch time! I blamed the tyre at the time, as I had read a few posts saying they were dangerous on the front. However another rider was running the AC10 and stated that it was the best tyre he ever had. Which got me thinking....
I took it off today and put it next to my old tyre (Michelin Comp V) and it was a good 50mm taller (carcass). This got me wondering about geometry
and how tyre diameter can effect rake and trail and thus handling.
I have no problems with the front end running the comp V at all, it feels planted in mud or rocky/slippery lanes.
So my question is could extra height of the tyre cause the geometry to be off enough to cause an un-rideable (for me) setup?

Re: Tyre diameter
AC 10s are shite jams. Last well because of hard compound. Very slippery tyre on rocks and roots, no flex in tyre :bounce:

Yeah the maxxis tyres that most of the others were using did have more flex, but the comp V i have been running is harder due to the mousse! Which is what makes me think geometry.

Re: Tyre diameter
I also found they gave a weird flopping from side to side feeling, rather than just a lack of grip that could well be a geometry thing.
I changed all sorts including the bars and head bearings before realising a company as big as Michelin could make such shite!
Sling it away and use what worked before I say

Yeah I got that too, on mud and grass, just scooted off the side of roots and rocks. Yep another comp V is in the post! Gonna try the maxxis SI for wet muddy days as well.shocker wrote:I also found they gave a weird flopping from side to side feeling, rather than just a lack of grip that could well be a geometry thing.

I got an ac10 on the back of my 350 I was riding on Sunday . No complaints and seems to have lasted a bit longer than most . Was warned about putting one on the front though , so stuck with a fim maxxis .
