Bearing question Empty Bearing question

Post by Robert_G Thu Jun 06, 2013 11:10 am

I need to replace a few bearings in my suspension linkage and don't fancy shelling out £60 for a kit and was wondering if these would work: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

I know they probably wouldn't last as long but at those prices and with how easy they are to service I don't really mind :p.

i've used individual bearings in place of kits.bike shops charge a fortune for what are relatively inexpensive items so its not always easy to judge.a bottom bearing for a ktm is much cheaper from a bearing stockist than it is from a ktm dealer, doesn't mean its less quality.

that does seem very cheap but if packed with grease and replaced with good seals then i can't see a problem.

i've only ever changed the bottom shock bearing on the linkage on my xr650 and i've ridden it through some very wet winters.it has amazing seals, the best i've come across on a dirt bike.presumably thats why the bearing have lasted so long, all thing being equal, annual strip and grease etc.

Try simply bearings! You can get most bike bearings from them, they usually have a few different ones too, from budget to the good stuff.

If you don't mind regularly stripping and greasing the budget ones are fine. It normally the seals that fail, letting in water and grit.

Use agood quality grease and you will be fine

Cheers for all the input guys. Have some bearings and seals winging their way to me as I type Very Happy. I paid a little extra and bought decent quality seals though.

Small update. I just looked at the bearings that came in my all balls swing arm kit and they are the same hk bearings that are being sold on ebay for 2.19 each. I just paid nearly £43 for the all balls kit too and could of bought everything required for less than £20 if I had bothered to check the sizes and order them seperately as I'm doing now.

I would say some times the kits can be OK and Sometimes they ain't! Depends I suppose on where they source the stuff, so easy nowadays to end up with Chinese shit...

I ended up buying OEM stuff when I had KTM's. They were near enough the same cost and you didn't need to worry about the quality... Cool
