Didn't they suffer from valve and head problems?
still i suppose at that age it would have all been sorted my now.

Had no problems with mine (except of my own doing 
)
They did have a bit of a reputation for soft valves on the early versions but like you say they should have been sorted by now but if not its chuck in a new set of stainless steel valves and she's good to go
