Tyre Mousses Empty Tyre Mousses

Post by azzy2007 Sat May 19, 2012 6:20 pm

Hi just wandered if anybody else has had any problems whilst riding with mousses in the tyres?

Im not too sure how old they are but i have replaced bearings within the last 3 hours of riding so i no they are nearly brand new and are very tight, also had wheel aligned not so long ago but have been getting a really bad wobble from rear wheel (feels like a buckle) so put it up on the stand and the tyre has a slight wobble to it when in the air (rim looks straight still), and was wandering if this is a sign of the mousses dying?????

Is the tyre sitting as it should be all the way around?
Does the tyre look or feel flat?
When the mousse went in mine last i could feel the rim hitting big rocks.
You,l know if it does its like hitting a large rock with a flat tyre.

You could always take it out and have a look.

yeh the tyre is sitting straight on the rim with no uneven edges
the tyre feels solid still and doesnt look flat (even wen im sat on it!) it rides and feels as if its got an 'eggy' lol
so wasnt too sure if the mousses had a tendancy to mayb twist or have weak spots which may cause this sort of thing?

i think i will have to take it out tomorow and have a look, altough i have never seen 1 so wouldnt no whether it looks healthy or not, any pointers as to what it should/nt look like?

ok cheers, think i will have a look tomorow, are the tyres easy to take off the rims with them in? sorry if that seems a silly question but as i havent used them before wouldnt no, and dont fancy ripping them when i put the levers in to get the tyre off...mayb i will check the front aswell as didnt think about checkin that as the wobble felt as tho it was from the rear

no not since ive had it anyway...probably 3 days maximum at a time, the bike was fine until i popped down the shop on it the other day (approx 1.5miles away) and felt the back end start gettin twitchy/juddery, and has seemed to start from there, now its really bad on acceleration as when theres some speed behind it, dont tend to notice wobble as used to the nobbly tyres so no it wont be smooth lol

When you said had the wheel aligned do you mean you,v had the spokes checked?
if not check them.
I found mine used to come lose quite often.
If the mousse is knackered it,l be all cracked but if the tyres still quite firm it should be ok.

if the rear rim lock isnt tight as fook, then the mousse will spin on the rim and take chunks out of your mousse... if this is the case you'll need a new mousse and an extra rim lock too. these are very hard to change and fitting it with 2 rim locks makes it even harder. look at the bolt on the rim lock.. is it straight upright or is it off at an angle? if its at a slight angle its your rim lock and mousse caught up giving you the wobble. tubes are a much much easier option!
