If the water is at all brackish (as in pine forest water), sandy etc. and you have a two stroke it’s an engine strip...
You can get it going easy enough to get you home but the internals will be corroded. Bearing life is F@@ked. I’ve seen sand at the bottom of crank cases!

If it’s a four stroke. Rings will get clogged and barrel probably scored. Saying that Nickosil is pretty tuff stuff. Plenty of valve stem wear as well. Not as good as valve paste but getting there…

Its not the first time its been drowned and im sure with winter on its way its not going to be the last.

It's pretty amazing how these bikes actually will start and run after being drowned. This is the technique I recommend.
If the engine is completely full of water you'll find the kickstart will jam solid as water doesn't compress like air .. your engine is hydrolocked so you need to get the water out before trying to start it up.
Start by removing the airbox cover ... water will probably flow out like a drink dispenser. Take the water logged foam filter out and put it safe in your backpack.
Remove sparkplug, on most newish bikes that'll probably mean removing seat and tank as well for access.
Put the bike in gear and with the eager help of your companions stand the bike on it's back wheel to let the water run out of the exhaust.
Next kick the engine over plenty to get all the water out of the cylinder.
Check you have a spark, if not clean AND DRY your sparkplug and check again.
Refit the sparkplug.
Lay the bike on it's left side to let your carb empty. Same for right side.
Refit tank then the bike should start after plenty of kicking.
You'll probably find the bike will run roughly. Keep layingit on left side then right repeatedly to flush the carb. Give the engine some revs to get it warmed up and clear.
You could try refitting the airfilter but you may want to leave that till you get home.

Thanks inspector great reply did ask the question?... because a while back we had to pull a bike out of the drink and its owner we done as you said but didn't know about the left to right thing we just drained the carb, did squezze out the air filter tho! & refit it cos we still had trails to do.
He also drained the oil when he got home, then gave it a good clean through.
Is it the same with fuel injection?

Ideally you should drain the oil as soon as possible, before you get home if you can.
Last time i dunked mine only road it about 15 miles or so to the nearest garage checked the oil
Drained it and refiled with car oil not the best but a lot better than what came out at the time.
